Hello R Family friends!! I am very jealous of everyone going to Ixtapa this summer- it's not in the cards for us. I did want to make sure folks were aware of the shooting of 2 Canadian tourists on a bike path in Ixtapa last month- it was the middle of the day and kind of scary. There's been increasing violence in the greater area generally (my friend who lives in a nearby town is actually moving back to the US without her husband because they are getting concerned) so please please be careful if you leave the resort this summer.
Let me be clear- I do NOT want to discourage anyone from going on this amazing trip. If we were otherwise able to go, I'd still feel comfortable going (and taking my 2 and 4 yo children with me). And you should be absolutely fine with no issues while on the Club Med property. I just know there wasn't much coverage in the U.S. because the tourists were Canadian, and I wanted all my RFamily peeps to be aware and safe, especially if you go offsite.
