I wanted to get an idea if any other families are interested in arriving in Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo early by one, two or three days pre-Club Med. I contacted Club Med Ixtapa today and asked what their rates are to arrive early and stay for 2 nights before our R Family vacation starts. I was quoted a price for two nights that includes all of our food, alcohol, room etc. She quoted me a price of $1156 for two days for my wife, myself and our 11 year old son (too much money for my family to tack on to this vacation) The Club Med person told me that we should go to our group (R Family) and see if they can get us a group rate. While that sounds like a good idea, I kind of doubt that they can get that price down enough to make it appealing. I am more likely interested in staying in Zihuatanejo for much less money (that is the town that is nearby that has beautiful beaches and is more traditional, older than Ixtapa) than additional days at Club Med. I feel it would be more enjoyable for my family to stay in Zihuatanejo and experience that town vs. 2 more days at Club Med.

So, does anyone else think they may want to join my family ahead of time in Zihuatanejo?

Any recommendations for a hotel in Zihuatanejo?

Does anyone have any experience traveling to Zihuatanejo or Ixtapa?

Ciao,

Tina

I would recommend staying somewhere on Playa La Ropa in Zihuatanejo. However, have you thought about a two day layover in Mexico City instead. Your 11 year old son should be studying the Aztecs in school this year or next year depending on what grade he is in. Going to Mexico City to see the pyramids would be a great experience. Also, the Anthropology Museum is one of the best. There are other fun educational things for an 11 year old boy to do in Mexico City. There is nothing really to do in Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo except enjoy the beach, which is nice, but not extraordinary. Don't get me wrong, I will be in Ixtapa and have a great time, but if your kid has never been to Mexico City, I think you will all really enjoy it.
Coming from Sacramento, you could easily get a flight that stops in Mexico City and then connects to Ixtapa.
