Hi Everyone!
I just wanted to start a conversation going with the group about couples and singles who don't have kids. We have been on 2 other R Family cruises and have yet to meet up with other like people. We travel with my partner's brother and his partner and their 2 boys- so we are the fun gay uncles on the trips.
It would be great it we could start a group to meet each other before the cruise and plan a get together once we are on board. We ourselves are not planning on children so sometimes we don't have alot in common with other couples on these trips. But even couples who are planning on kids would be great to meet. Gay/Lesbian/TG or whatever..let's plan a meeting of our own!
We have learned on past R Family cruises that it can be difficult to meet other non children travelers. We don't have alot in common with the couples with families (nothing against them please... we just can't relate to some of the family related topics) and it makes it hard to be on the outside of these circles sometimes. We seem to meet more of the straight traveling companions of other gay and lesbian cruise members than other gay people.
Please don't anyone mis-interpret my motives here or what I am trying to say. We are in awe of these great, courageous, loving families, but it is just not in our picture. I find myself near tears every time we board, seeing these families. We would just like a time to feel welcome also. Gay uncles are pretty awesome you know!!!
So anyone, want to join a group???
See ya'll in July!!!

Hi Kevin and Tony,
R Family has all different (MIXERS) just for that purpose. So that people with common interests or as you are the COOL GAY UNCLES A Mixer is a planned activity at a specific time and place where people can meet.I am expaining for other people that might be new to the Forums..This is put on the daily schedule that you get nightly in your cabins of the next days events.R Family is very good about making everyone inclusive.
I will see what we can do about getting you a COUPLE's with no KiIDS Mixer.
Please remind me closer to the Cruise.

Thanks Cheryl-
This will be our 3rd R Family cruise and we have never seen a mixer with this group in mind before. Lots of other ones, but not one that included couples like us. This would be great if you could set this up!
Coulpes like us....keep rsponding please!!! Thanks Kathy and Donna (and partners) for being the 1st to respond..that's a good sign. (even if no others, we will meet up and have fun ourselves!!!!)

Hi
I'm Laura and my partner is Sue
we are travelling with our friends - couple Loretta and Traci and Casey.
Actually none of us have kids.
We might be interested in getting together before the cruise too. I responded on another topica about a different get together.
We are all from NE Ohio.
Thanks for thinking of it. This is not only our first R Family Vacation but our first cruise so it will be nice to meet people. (We are normally PTown vacationers and are mixing it up a little this year.)
peace,
Laura

I'm kind of in the same boat you are, I'm 24, and travelling on the cruise with my mom. While I'm sure she could dig out a lot of baby stories about me, I don't think I want to be anywhere near when she does! I hope to see you all onboard.

Hey guys and gals,
We are a female couple with no kids on our first every cruise, period. We chose R Family just because of all of you. Would love to get together before, during or maybe after cruise. We are not sure if we will get to Seattle only the day before or day of as we are driving in from Nebraska. But we will be hanging around a few days after returning, as we have friends in the area. Keep us in mind for any activities, if you don't mind a couple of old ladies hanging around.

Hi Everyone!
It is great to see all these responses so far, not to mention the couple of emails we have received also!
It looks like this could shape up to be a good group. We are anxious to meet each of you and share a little time together to make some new friends.
So let's keep the dialogue going...spread the word...there must be more of us out there!!! :)
We will be arriving in Seattle on Wed July 8 early in the morning to meet the nephews (and their fun loving dads as well). No plans yet on what we are doing once we get there, but as a past Seattle resident, I am sure we will find some fun things to do.
If anyone has questions about the city (things to do, places to go, food etc...) let me know. I will be glad to answer any questions. It is a great city and there are lots of great things to do and places to go..and what a wonderful time to be there! July is a pretty spectacular month weather wise. Can get warm, but not as hot as it will be back home in Phoenix!!!
Keep in touch ya'll and let's find more people to join our little (not so little hopefully) group!
Have a good week!!!!!

I remember that I had a 25th birthday once...does that count?
We have no kids unless you count the four legged furry ones. And they will not be vacationing with us! So, we would enjoy a pre-cruise or on-cruise get together with other "no-kidders".

Hey guys! This will be our third cruise sans kids! We do have them (4 boys ages 10 & 14 - 2 of each!), but the cruise is our get-away and believe me....we DO NOT spend our cruise time talking about them with other parents! LOL! We have met some wonderful, wonderful friends - both gay and straight - also traveling without children and we have the time of our life on these cruises! If there is a mixer count us in (all 10 of us if my count is correct). Alaska here we come!

Hey it is an R Family cruise you can be who you want or dont :D :D .

I'm a single male and went alone last year, I had a great time. Occasionally I was conscious of being alone, but basically I was so busy so much of the time I didn't have time to feel lonely.
Often the best way to meet people was to show up early to an event and chat with the people around you. They did have a mixer the first night for singles, but that was just one night and went by quickly.
They also had a singles dinner..However the problem with an event like that is that you are "rooted" in your seats so you can't meet everyone there.
The best thing is to just look at all the activities available every day on the ship's schedule, HIGHLIGHT what looks interesting, and then do it. There's enough of a diversity of people that you will meet all kinds.
For example, I met a lot of people through a knitting group. Also, the tours were also a great place to meet people because you are with a smaller group. There is also a sign-up board where you can create your own group, and have people meet.
Probably the best thing is to ask Colin and Gregg to think up other singles and no-kid-couples events and also send them your suggestions.
What percentage of the ship is single/no-kids-couples adults, anyway??

Helloo Kevin and Tony,
My name is Patty and my partner Nikki (both 37) went on the cruise last July and had a blast. It was the most magical week of our lives, but we also felt awkward in meeting others like us. We are not as out-going as most, but we would have definatley attended a mixer on the boat for couples with no kids. If something gets scheduled on the boat, we will definatley be there. Thanks and see you on the boat!

Hey Kevin and Tony.
We feel the same way, for those that want children in there lives this is truly a beautiful and emotional event. Our community is truly lucky to have rFamily and the opportunity to vacation comfortably.
With that said, Rich and I also found it difficult to find childless couples. We even came across two couples that actually questioned our decision not to adopt  it was quite negative
But that was only two people on a huge ship of fabulousness; unfortunately it happened on the first night of our first rFamily cruise and made us a bit cautious about talking to other couples (Its weird to feel different in the middle of the community that fights to be everything but different).
We made the best of the vacation, had a wonderful time and will go again, but did not meet any additional friends, other that one couple I met here in the forum before we set sail.
Rich and I would love to be part of this network of couples with out kids.

Hi Rich-
Thank you for the response. We too have had similar experiences on the R Family cruises. We have been asked "Have you two ever thought about having kids?" or "Why don't you two have kids? You would make great fathers". When we answered honestly that kids were never really a part of our plans when we met (I was in my mid 30's establishing an executive career and Tony was in his mid 40's and starting to think about retirement) they would look at us like awwww that's too bad or turn away with indifference to us and made us feel like we were not part of the crowd.
It was very confusing the first trip for us. We were there to support my brother in laws and nephews and we thought that was a very important part of the cruise as well. But many times we were faced with seemingly pity or scorn from other travelers with kids. I applaud their decisions and commitments...I think it is a wonderful thing to see these families and it brings tears to my eyes many times while we are on board. I honestly think that even I was not gay, kids may never have been part of my life plan. I was not in a stable enough environment until this past 5 years to even think of ever bringing a child into the mix. It would not have been fair to a child.
I think that sometimes our fellow travelers are so caught up in the lives of their family and children and think it is something that everyone should do. But, we chose a different path. We love being uncles and treasure these cruises as time to spend with them- quality time,
full of memories that we hope they will remember for their lifetime. These cruises are supposed to be all inclusive- everyone should feel safe, welcome and not judged. We have learned to smile, answer honestly and go our own way when confronted with these questions. I hope that this cruise people are less judging and more open to the fact we chose to be the HAPPY, FUN, Gay uncles!! It is a shame that we as a community feel the need to judge anyone, when we beg the rest of the world not to judge us.
That is why I created this thread. To meet the travelers like us, who are there to support other family members or friends, or to meet like people to have as friends in this world where friends are getting harder to meet. So, please, smile, be honest and don't let people get to you. We are going to go out of our way this trip to meet as many people as possible- to smile and offer to start a conversation with anyone who wants to. We just went on a regular cruise with Carnival and met lots of straight people who were much easier to approach and had no issues with hanging out with a gay couple. We were amazed that it was so much easier to meet people on a straight cruise than on a boat full of other gay people- go figure!!!
So, sorry to drag on- but let's meet and hang out and make friends!

Hi Gang,
As you have probably read, we have always marketed ourselves as a great options for those in our community with or without kids. Everyone is welcome on our cruise and you'll see most of our programming is designed for adults. (The kids have their own events that are created for them).
We would love to add a mixer at the beginning of the week for all of the many guests who sail with us that do not have kids (me included).
Thanks for the great feedback and interest and I look forward to seeing all of you onboard!!
Keep spreading the word and always feel free to contact me directly at gregg@rfamilyvacations.com.

I'm single and nobody ever bothered me about "getting a boyfriend" or adopting a child (I met single parents). There were a lot of single people hanging around the piano bar at night.
I liked all the group events and just being part of the crowd - It was a very unique experience. I've been with all-male, all-Gay crowds tons of times, and also mixed gay men / gay women crowds.
But what made these gatherings so unique is that there was a full range of people, from 1 month to people in their 80's...and beyond?
It's also so much easier for me as a single person, I don't have to explain who I am, what I am, why I'm traveling alone....I was on a straight cruise with a Gay group of about 50 people.
We had a great time, but whenever I got away from the group on my own I felt a little lost and I just could not relate to any of the people around me.
I never felt that way on Rosie's cruise, everything always felt like a celebration of our lives .
It's the hardest feeling to describe in the world. Can't wait to feel it again! ;)

Well, now I am worried...this thread is "Couples/Singles with no kids". Seems like all I am hearing is Couples who want to meet Couples...when I posted that I was sailing single I didn't even get acknowledeged. Will I be subjected to a week of "Why are you single?" in addition to why I have no kids?....uh oh!

No worries there are actully many singles that travel with us.There is a Mixer for them on every Cruise in addition to planned events for singles through out the week. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to meet other singles.
I wouldn't worry about be questioned as to why you are or aren't anything.
That is the beauty of an R Family Cruise because there is such a variety of people everyone fits in and is equally welcomed.

Don't worry! I travelled solo.. with no kids... on the last cruise... I was alone for about the first 10 minutes.. and then that was it! Finding people here on the boards is a wonderful way to get to know people ahead of time... gives you "someone" to look out for.. or feel connected to... at the sail away party.. just look for cheryl in her Rainbow outfit.. if you look around her.. you will find other forum folks.. and introduce yourself.. and let the fun begin! Noone ever asked me why I was alone.. or why I didn't have kids..... noone asks anyone anything of that nature.. it is live and let live... and complete respect of each other's choices.. no judgement ever.... so..come along and join in the party! :) You will NEVER regret it!

Kevin and Tony -
I'm sorry you've had that experience on other cruises. My partner and I have a 2 1/2 year old, and this will be our 4th R Family Cruise. Every cruise we've been on, we've made friends with couples and singles without kids. Not all the gay dads are going to pressure you to have kids - so don't be afraid to say hi to some of the dads on board!!!

Well my partner and I have been on every cruise so far and without kids. On the first Cruise it was a fantastic and Magical experience and we met so many wonderful new friends. On the second and third cruise it inspired us to have our very own commitment ceromony here at home with family and friends. Then "I" wanted Kids, LOL well it never happened but we still keep on cruisin with our friends and their kids. We are always asked why we don't have kids or do we plan on having kids and why would we come on this cruise with so many kids. As Greg mentioned it is for everyone and we are extremely happy without and enjoy those of others. We have our 4 legged little girl our child ( wish we could bring her on with us ).
The idea of a Mixer is fantastic and watch there be a huge turn out.
Have a great trip

Hi all! Jeff and I are doing our first cruise and don't have kids either. I'm glad you posted this topic and it will be nice to connect with others that will be on a schedule independent of kids.
Were coming in from Minnesota on Friday, and are avid DNR listeners, so we will be hanging out with the Derek & Romaine crowd on Friday night. I think there's also planning for an "over 21" get-together on Friday night as well. So hopefully we can meet before launch OR at least know how to contact each other in advance of being on the ship.

Hey Sharon and Beth,
My partner and I are coming in from Nebraska too!! Where are you from? It would be great to "hook up!"
HeatherHey guys and gals,
We are a female couple with no kids on our first every cruise, period.

Hi Kevin and Tony....and all!
We too are without kids and look forward to meeting others. My partner, Glenn and I live in Tucson and look forward to meeting you. This is our 2nd cruise, but the 1st rfamily cruise. We cruised to Hawaii in 2007 with another couple (female) on a Princess cruise. We didn't encounter any problems of any kind, but I think many thought we were 2 straight couples together. We are looking forward to this type of cruise, but are a bit concerned about all the families and children, too. Especially since we don't have any! We want to feel inclusive as part of the GLBT family, but not excluded just because we don't have children.
Looking forward to meeting everyone, soon!

Hi David,
There are plenty of opportunities to meet other Cruisers without children on the Cruise.Actually you would never think that there were so many kids on the Cruise.
There are plenty of activities that are planned just for the adults it is very inclusive.People bring their family friends Gay straight single just a big mix of everyone.
People are friendly. You are going to have a great time. The beauty of this Cruise is that everyone fits.
I am hosting a Pre Cruise dinner the night before the Cruise there are plenty of Couples without kids coming. It is a great way to meet people.
If you want read the Pre Cruise thread and you can see the people coming without kids.
Come have dinner with us.I will introduce you to everyone.
WELCOME!!!!

Hi Everyone!
It is so great to still seeing people responding to this thread! I apologize I haven't been as good at keeping up my part of the conversation lately, but work travel has kept me busy.
Anyways, I am excited to meet every one of you in July. This should be a fun mixer. We will be in Seattle Wed the 8th to play around in my ol' hometown for a couple of days. We would love to try and meet up with some of you prior to the departure. So feel free to email us privately and say HI!
Almost there... it's heating up in Phoenix already, so cool Alaska is looking better and better everyday...
Thanks again for all the responses!!!!!

Hey All,
Getting together before or during the cruise with everyone without kids, and even those with kids sounds like a great idea. As you've probably read in some of my posts before, I am in the process of putting together a PreCruise Party the night before we embark. It will be at a bar in Seattle, R-Place, so hope to see and meet everyone there. I'm sure we 're all going to have a great time before, during and after the cruise and I look forward in meeting new people making alot of new friends to stay intouch with. I'm kind of shy at first, but, after that, watchout! LOL

Hey Candue,
This should be a good breakin for me for the "BIG" cruise. I booked this cruise thru a bus company/Travel Agent and it included round trip bus for the cruise. The bus pickup point is less than a mile from my house and they have secure parking. I checked with the bus company today and there's only 17 people on a 55 passenger bus so lots of room (god and I need it LOL) . The bus will be there at 11am on Sunday to bring us back home so this should be really nice. I'm bringing my laptop so let's see if I get a connection with my wifi modem. Talk to you guys soon.

my bf and I are first time cruisers, no kids here also, would love to meet you all on the cruise. Also any advice on which are the best excursion trips to take, and does it make the most sense to wait until the cruise to book them?

Hi Matthew!
I think is you see something you "Have to do!!!" book it now. Check out the cancelation policy first.
There are two options for excursions...from the ship and privately booked. Booked privately you get a more personal experience, save some money, don't have to wait for 60 other people to board the bus and use the bathroom, can skip shopping stops!!!!...but you have to do your homework.
I believe in Alaska your private booking options are limited as opposed to when you go to the Caribbean, when people are right on the dock hawking tours. [Can someone comment on this?]
Another caveat is that a ship booked tour waits for you if you are late! [Suppose you get caught in an avalanche while scouting out a glacier? Hmm...could be trouble and cause a slight delay in your return to the ship]
Another note...on a cruise like this...maybe you WANT to be on a tour with your fellow passengers as opposed to being on an all straight cruise where you can't wait to get away from them!

Thanks for making this an easy decision. It's our first vacation together, we just celebrated 2 years as a couple, and it's Dustin's first cruise. Looking forward to a great experience and learning more as we get closer to travel day!

Last time we were in Seattle, we could spot other cruisers on the streets, often by their t-shirts. We met a couple of families that way.

I second the idea of going on the "must do" excursions.
Also, I don't recommend the city tour options if you're like me and like to have the flexiblity & freedom to choose where to go & when.
