One excursion you might want to do is the Whale watching. I went with my daughter who is now 18(ouch) and it was amazing
Being so close to the Whales and actually seeing them was awesome. Are your girls outdoorsy ?
There are hiking excursions. Fishing for Salmon.
I sent a case home. Which you can do from the many stores in all of the Ports in Alaska. Glacial Bay was bar far the most breath taking landscape I have ever seen.
When it gets closer to the Cruise and you get your Docs an excursion booklet will come with your NCL registration number.
You can register prior to the Cruise or when you get on for the excursions. Once you make a reservation you are locked into it.
The cancellation policy is 24 hours prior to the excursion.
The excursions are a little more expensive than if you plan it on your own. A bunch of us in prior Cruises rented Vans and did our own excursions. It was cheaper and we got to see more of the real country or island as opposed to the cookie cutter tourist attractions..
One thing if you are running late on an NCL excursion they will wait for you. If you are out on your own they will leave!!!!
I have seen it happen.
Hope that helps.
Hey Peeps any more suggestions.
Pete you had great pics of Alaska.XXOO Guys

I saw that the excursions have adult only pricing will that be the price for children too. Nice excursions...pretty pricey though.

Hi Everybody
Matt, Lauren, and I went on an Alaska cruise eight years ago. We took a float plane to an area that was very remote. We got to watch salmon spawn and bears scoop them out of the water. We also did this easy hike bear watching. We did get to see a mom and 2 cubs just wandering. It is pretty safe. The guide instructs everyone to observe the bears and not scream or do anything provoking. The guide is armed with a rifle. It is amazing to see bears in their natural habitat in such a beautiful setting.
Matt and Lauren also took a helicopter to the top of a glacier and went dog sledding.

Oh Jimmy, that sounds awesome. Was it an NCL excursion? It sounds exactly like what I've wanted to do. :)

No this was a Princess Cruise excursion. I imagine NCL has the same type of offerings. I was reading my post and really thinking how fantastic it really was. I am going to look at the NCL site and see what they have.

You can book your excursions on line now. My partner and I booked last night. You can get to the excursion site by clicking here:

If you do not have an on line account with NCL, you will need to register and also know your NCL booking number which should have arrived to you with the R Family invoice. We booked two excursions and did not get the first choice of time on either one but it did work out.

Hi,
The whale watching is a great one to do however there is not a guarantee you will see any whales. I know several people go upset about not seeing whales but it is nature! So just a heads up on the whale watching excursion.
I did a panning for gold excursion and it was very fun. My oldest who was 6 at the time really enjoyed it a great deal as did I. We will be doing that one again this time.

We did the whale watching last year on the Oosterdam and did see some whales but know that anything can happen. One thing about the excursion we booked yesterday on NCL. You are guaranteed to spot whales or receive a partial refund. Seems fair to me.
Adult Pricing From: $129
Enjoy this encounter via Jetboat as you search the waters for humpback whales! The boat is fully enclosed and features a heated cabin, large viewing windows and an outer deck for viewing and is equipped with binoculars and an underwater microphone. Your Captain will choose a route to find other animals as well, including porpoises, seals, sea lions, eagles, and more. Note: Whale sightings are guaranteed or you'll receive $100 cash back ($50 for children) as you disembark the whale-watching vessel.

We actually were talking about booking the whale watching today because seeing whales is guaranteed, or a partial of your money is refunded.
Thanks everyone for your feedback and please keep it coming. You guys & gals are absolutely wonderful and we can't wait to meet everyone.
