Where are people staying in seattle pre/post cruise? I was hoping to find a reasonably priced hotel near the port, or with a shuttle to the port. Do most hotels have airport shuttles as well?

We are looking for the same. A group of us, about 15 or so, are going out to Seattle by train from Pa and we are in need of accommodations as well. I'll let you know what we find out and pass it on. I'm hoping that maybe there will be something on the RFamily website for specials.;)

There is a train from Pennsy to Seattle?!? How long does it take? Is it less expensive than flying?

I was checking out hotels also, they look kinda pricey. We are leaving NYC Friday June 30 I really don't want to spend more than $100.00 a night so if anyone finds a decent hotel for about that I would love to hear about it also.

We live just outside of the beautiful Seattle area. I thought I would offer some suggestions. You can always stay in Bellevue or outside of the city. However, Bellevue is across Lake Washington (divides Seattle and the Eastside) so you would need to depend on city buses or rent a car. So, not sure how much that would save you. The Hyatt Regency in Bellevue is nice. I went online and found some rates for Seattle hotels. Mayflower Park $165.00, Sheraton-$179.00, The Paramount Hotel, and the Hilton on 6th Ave. for $169.00. These are all in great locations. You can walk everywhere downtown very easily. This seems to be the average price for a nice hotel in the summer. I would be happy to answer any questions about this are area. My email is mma1@comcast.net. Good luck!

Yes there is a train from PA to Seattle. It's much cheaper than flying , however; it does take three days to get there. When I booked our seats it was $200 something for adults round trip and children under 17 are much less.

I have been waiting for Gregg to post the info for the pre/post hotel packages that he said would be ready today. This is the first cruise I am going on with RFamily, or any in fact. I am going to be going with my partner, my 13 year old son, a friend and her 13 year old son. She has been on the two previous cruises. We are so looking forward to it!
If anyone finds any info for inexpensive hotels, I would love to hear from you! We live in Syracuse NY. I am hoping to make plane reservations after the first of the year. Has anyone else bought plane tickets yet?

I purchased our plane tickets already but wish I had waited. They cost over $400 each (from Newark) and I would have much preferred to take the train for 1/2 that amount. I had no clue there even was a train to Seattle! That would've been a cool "road trip".
This is what I've found out about getting about in Seattle.
Taxi from Sea-Tac to downtown about $25.00. Grey Line has a shuttle bus to the downtown hotels from the airport for $8 per person, and limos/town cars for about $35-40. Expect about a minimum of 1/2 hour trip each way,, depending on traffic and time of day.
As for cheap hotels people report getting deals on Priceline in the $60 to 100 range.

I went to Hotwire.com and found some great hotel deals in Seattle. We have used Hotwire before in many major US cities and have never been disappointed with the quality of the accomodations and the rates. We found 3 star hotels in Seattle for about $60 per night and the Sheraton Hotel and Towers (a 4 star hotel) in Downtown/Pike Place for $119 per night. We decided to splurge an spend the first two nights of our vacation in style.

If you're looking for clean, comfortable, basic and affordable accommodations in Seattle, check out the Travelodge by the Space Needle. I've stayed there twice, most recently a couple of weeks ago and it is great value. Convenient location and free parking if you have a car. About a 10 minute walk to Pike Place Market or the centre of the city. I paid $55 for a double room. If you're looking for some food/restaurant recommendations check out one of my favorite websites (lesbian owned/operated) that has a great section on Seattle places to eat and things to see: www.wavejourney.com
Hope this helps!

I Found a great hotel in Seattle!!!!! ;)
The Silver Cloud - Lake Union Hotel. We booked a room for 3 adults and 1 child with a lake view for 214 per night. (We are staying two nights, Friday and Saturday before the cruise). I asked about other rates their rates start at 169, no view, Double Occupency, $15 each additional person. You can look at the website at http://www.scinns.com/lake.htm.
One thing to note, they do not have a shuttle (with Luggage) to the pier. Taxi service will range about $15 - $20. You can use the free shuttle to explore downdown, but not with luggage. They DO have a shuttle from the Airport (Shuttle Express).
I am told this is in the GLBT neighborhood, and should be very accomodating to our families. The ammenities look great. But please be sure to ask all the important questions for your family's needs.
Please post if you booked your room also. We will look for you.

From an earlier post I discovered www.wavejourney.com
Was pleasantly surprised to discover that this wonderful website is hosted by two women I met a couple of years ago on a 500 mile walk across France, (The Camino). What a dynamic duo! Viv and Jill have built a site dedicated to the woman traveller and it is chockful of useful information. I recommend it to one and all. Good info on Seattle as it pertains to this thread.

Hey Peggy
Did you email the girls at wavejourney.com? I hear they're going to be in Palm Springs at the end of March beginning of April for the Dinah Shore and to watch the Kraft Nabisco Golf. If you're in the area you could meet up with them, I'm going to give it a shot to be there at that time - should be a blast. I'd love to meet them, their site is great.

Don't forget Priceline. We booked our pre-cruise room about 2 months ago, and got one of the "R Family Hotels", the Sheraton Hotel and Tower, for $105 per night (for the room, not per person). We bid on the Downtown area, 4 stars. Even if you don't get this one, the other hotels are all close by, and are certainly worth the discounted price.
