Being the nosey person that I am, I'm curious how things are going for the various folks featured in the recent HBO "All Aboard" documentary since they participated in R Family's maiden cruise? Like did those two couples end up following through with initial plans to "swap" and if so, has a baby been born to them yet? Did that one mother (at the art gallery) ever budge on the subject of same-sex marriage? What's life been like for the many gay families that shared their lives with us since that fateful week?

Also, have there been protests of R Family Vacation cruises during any of the stops at either of the subsequent cruises?

There are updates on the DVD of all the families. As far as the two couples who were considering swapping, the ladies adopted a baby from Guatemala and the 2 guys were in the process of adopting. There have been no other protests on the cruises. In fact most of the ports had signs in the windows welcoming us. (well let's be honest....they were welcoming our wallets and charge cards but it was nice to see we were wanted).

I just want to say for the record that we did not go on this cruise with the intention of finding 'donors'. We went as a couple in the process of trying to become pregnant through fertility and thought this would be a wonderful opportunity to talk to GLBT families. Living in the the South we do not have exposure to these opportunities. We are so grateful to R Family vacations for giving us an outlet once a year to see, and to learn, and to be ourselves. We have adopted a beautiful little girl. We remain friends with the boys we met on the cruise. Their offer was so generous and unselfish, but in this avenue nothing further was pursued. The documentary was awesome but this was a very small part of our trip. We are signed up for our 4th trip in Feb. We continue to return because of the people, the families, the informational seminars, and the freedom.

Congratulations on the adoption of your daughter!

I totally got that you weren't looking for a donor and that the situation kind of fell in your collective lap and that you were curious/interested/unsure. I was just curious if the donor connection lasted or not and your story was one of the ones that really stuck in my head.

Thanks for the update and good luck to you and your family!!! :)

I remember you vividly, too Cheryl! The shorts were great! (I'm assuming that was you with the custom-made shorts)

(paraphrasing
Them: "No!"
You: "How's it going?"
Them: "No!"
You: "Have a great day!"
Them: "No!"
You: "Catch you later!") :D

Hopefully someday we'll be able to participate in one of the cruises. My boys (the youngest especially) really wants to go. And so do I!

Hi,
Yes that is my custom made shorts. LOL. Wow that shows that my statement was made!
If possible you should try to make one of the cruises. It is such a feeling of love and unity.
Thanks for the compliment.

Did the two guys on the cruise that were going to donate to the two moms ever adopt or find a surrogate? That was the story that really stuck out to me as well! We are so happy that the mom's adopted their little girl. We live in the south too so we can totally relate!

Hey tryn2bmoms,

Your story was heart-wrenching, and yet it seems to have turned out the way it was supposed to? Good luck sent for your 2 buddies and their adoption.

We're going on the Feb. cruise, too. You'll recognize me by my SC background, but w/o the accent! LOL, we moved there when I was 10. My two younger sisters sound like they were born there, but my parents and I sound like we aren't related to my sisters! Bravo for your adoption and living in the south.

Hey Crazy aka Cheryl,

Love those shorts. Love your taking a light-hearted approach to the protesters. Love it, love it, love it! I'm glad you were featured.

post with you later,

sartek (lol, I named myself after my dog! My kid fared much better with his name!)

Thanks,
My shorts and I will see you in Feb. It has become a tradition to wear them to the cruise. "Mom are you going to wear them all the way to Seattle on the plane"
Ok I will put them on in the plane as soon as we are about to land. LOL
Tradition hell of a thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should check out the Losers Log a Countdown to the Carribian. It is hysterical.

CRAZY,

LOL - you may get to wear those shorts on the plane all the way to Miami, yet...if they put further restrictions on carry-on luggage, that is. Hey, you can use that as the excuse no matter what! I'll be sure to introduce myself when I spot you (or rather your shorts) since I am currently traditionless and unspottable!!!! Keep up the good work.
