For all of those married on the Star 7/8/06.

1. Have you gotten your Canadian "official" license yet?
2. Do you know if US (Social Security & DMV) will honor it for a name change?

Thanks,

Jan

Nothing official arrived yet -- wouldn't expect it for another couple weeks or so.

Name change? Probably depends on your DMV but as for as Social Security goes, I kind of doubt it. My guess is that the federal government doesn't want to do anything to make it seem like those weddings are recognized here in any way whatsoever. I hope I'm wrong!

(In our state we just went to a court commissioner for a name change -- it was simple, or as simple as anything that requires a court appearance can be.)

If you live in Calfornia I don't think you can. I think because it is not legal here. I had a legal company do my paperwork to change my name then post a public notice for 4 weeks which before I did that had to make a court date through the court do the public notice then had a court hearing which you usually don't have to be there. Then with the paperwork from the judge then I got to go to Social Security. That was I think about $500.00 later. So I think it just depends on where you live.

P.S. Does anyone know how we can get a copy of the ceromony words they did for us when theu married us?

Re: Ceremony words. Go here: http://www.vs.gov.bc.ca/

Maybe you can find your commissioner and email him/her for a copy?? There's a sample ceremony there but it's pretty heterocentric -- it sure doesn't resemble what we had!

No paperwork for us yet, but thought you might be interested in this piece my wife and I wrote in response to Washington state's ridiculous supreme court ruling...

We got our marriage certificate over the weekend. We haven't taken the time to look into name changes yet, although my wife has done one once before here in Texas and it was pretty much like the previous poster said - public notice then in court. :)

We live in Ohio and received our marriage lic certificate in the mail a few days ago. At our request the marriage commissioner sent the ceremony to us on e-mail attachment. Randi
