Just wondering if anyone else got sick toward the end of the cruise or after they got home. I started coughing with chest congestion and chills, then fever, then chills again. Can't believe I got sick considering how many times a day everyone disinfects their hands on the ship. Going to the doctor tomorrow, was just wondering if anyone else is having the same symptoms.

Yes, our son did and others also did from what I heard. I had some congestion but got over it. Our best to you;)

Not the same kind of sickness that you mentioned but Viv spent all of Wednesday in the cabin with most of the Norwalk Virus symptoms. Thankfully it only lasted 24 hours! Don't know where she picked it up from as we're both germophobes (sp?) and wash/sanitize our hands hundreds of times in a day. It could easily come from eating or drinking with utensils that have been infected by a crew member. Hope you feel better soon and it doesn't last too long.

Cheers!

Someone always seems to get sick when we travel -- and we're commited germophobes as well. If it ain't the cruise ship, it's the airplane. However, we had a Norwalk-type virus here on dry land a couple of years ago and I can tell you that once you've had it, you'll never forget it. Not just nausea but severe abdominal cramping to go along with the dual-ended fountain your body becomes.

Fortunately, I think we escaped with some head colds. Not great, but pretty much to be expected when you're sharing the love with so many stranger friends...

Yep, my daughter has a cough and chest congestion, and my throat feels funny.
For all the handwashing we all did I don't think the toys and surfaces in the kiddie play rooms got much sanitizing, and those baby germs are easily transferable to mommies and friends. When I worked in a day care we were required to wash down all the toys and play surfaces with bleach/water every 2-3 hours.

I really liked that sanitizing was taken so seriously onboard. After leaving the ship, we really missed having the sanitizer everywhere we looked!

I wonder if some of the people who got sick picked up whatever they got from others on the ship. Not everyone was diligent about sanitizing even though the crew was always there to enforce it.

I too am very germ conscious, because my health is compromised. At one point, I got in the elevator with someone (adult) who was coughing and sneezing and talking to her little boy about how sick she was and hoping he didn't get it. I held my breath and got off at the very next floor. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone who got in the elevator with that person didn't end up sick.

Last year sanitizing was only emphasized for the first couple of days. This year, the NCL crew "manned" the sanitation stations throughout the cruise. I applaud them for taking that so seriously.

We kept striking up conversations with people only to have them tell us "I've been quarantined for the past day because of vomiting" or "We must have picked something up in Seattle because we've all been throwing up. We're hoping to keep a little of this meal down...." And I'm NOT talking about Friday night. It made this girl run for the sanitizers every time.

But absent living in a bubble you can't prevent every cold or virus no matter how hard you try. I just hope and pray for some consideration from others in not spreading their germs and otherwise consider it all boost for my immune system to deal with all these bugs...

Ah, the sanitizers do nothing for the air-borne microbes....

I got home Sunday Night and was feeling tired and a little nausea. Then the whole night I was vomiting and then the diarihia started. This lasted till this morning where I woke up feeling a little better. Still have a chill and a slight fever and a little diarihia but at least the cramping is done and maybe now I could eat something. ( Chest is so sore from the vomiting )

Wow what a nightmare that was............. I too sanitized everywhere and as much as I could.

Hope you all are feeling better.

You mean like the little guy coughing all over the food at the kid's buffet table while he served himself and mom stood behind him patting him on the head!

We thought the crew and passengers were very good about the hand sanitizing for the first couple of days, but after that it dwindled. The sanitizer outside Versailles was empty on two occasions and took a long time to get them replaced. We witnessed a junior waiter hacking and sneezing into her hands and continuing to serve guests and set tables - contaminating everything she touched:mad: Also, boarding the ship in Ketchikan and Victoria there wasn't anyone to tell guests or crew to sanitize their hands for reboarding - so only 1 in 5 did. We spoke with supervisors many times about this and they were glad for our comments and said that it was policy that everyone sanitize their hands before boarding and before entering the restaurants/cafeteria. In the casino we witnessed dealers coughing/sneezing into their hands and continuing to deal. We think that the crew needs a refresher course on proper hygiene and how not to spread germs/disease.

Cheers!

We went into the kid's area at the airport and I would have given a BILLION dollars for some hand sanitizer!!! I think NCL has it right! Every public place should have a little UFO full of anti-cootie soap!

Even if I was just walking thru the Market I would use it going in and leaving!!! My girlfriend is fine- So I thought it was just me! Or I blamed it on sitting out in the cold on the 4th of July for 3 hours waiting for the light show!!!;) I didnt want to loose my place!! :D

Turns out I have acute bronchitis, doctor sent me to the ER last night. Please don't read this that I am blaming my illness on the cruise, we all know air circulation and cleanliness on airplanes and airports aren't that great either, so if you have a persistent cough, don't let it go, get it checked out. Bye for now, time to go back to bed............

coco5310 - take care of yourself and hope you feel better.

Our little guy has a mysterious rash on his leg, I knew of two other kids on the ship that had rashes too. We took him to get it looked at last night and they do not know what it is. It is round and quite red. Also not blaming the cruise, anytime one is in public we are at risk of picking up something. Just wondering if any other kids had something similar and if it had been diagnosed. The doc gave him a shot of benadril but it doesnt look any different this morning,

No - drugstores or grocery stores sell it with other athlete's foot treatments. Washing the affected area with Selsun Blue before applying the lotrimin will speed up healing. It may take a while for it to clear up, so don't stop treatment until the rash is completely gone.

I started coughing on Monday and now have a terrible sore through and chest cold. I santized every time I stopped by a "UFO" but that doesn't stop airborne germs. It does help with Norwalk-like viruses as they are transmitted through direct contact.

I enjoyed myself so much that I don't care if I'm sick now!

Our son had a rash too. Good advise with the Selsun Blue.-I used it years ago for a similar rash, recommended by a life guard. I gave Steven a Castile soap bath, and forgot about the selsun blue. The reason this happens alot in kids pools is yuk-pee in the pools.
and not so great hygiene and chlorine. It will go away in time. Also hydrocotosone cream helps with the itch-Cetephal renourishes the skin. Thank God it was not measles which we originaly thought:eek:

Our boy got the itchies, too. Went away very quickly -- twice a day hydrocortizone and benadryl for the itching at night. Guess getting away from the microbe pool, er, I mean, kiddie pool, was our magic.
