We are in the process of having a surrogate carry our child. One of us will be called mommy and we are working on what the child will call my partner. What have lesbian couples here done with this?? Just need some idea's!

Hello there. We have 2 wonderful little girls. One who is 4 and the other is 1. Our 4 year old calls one of us mommy and the other mama. She has had no confusion or problem with this. Often times if she wants both of us to answer her she will say "moms". Hope that helps. We have a very supportive preschool , For mother's day they have always helped our 4 year old make a card and gift for "mommy" and one for "mama." Hope that helps and good luck.

Ditto to the above post. We're Mama and Mommy, or MOM! when something is wanted!

Sounds great! That is great the preschool is accepting. The world is changing and I am glad for that!

I'm Mama and my partner is Kiki or Mama Kiki (toddler for Frankie). My daughter's classmates and young friends all call Frankie Kiki as well. Adults may call her Frankie. ;)

I am Mama and my partner is Mommy. Our two year old daughter will differentiate when it suits her, or she will alternate both until one of us answers. Her twin brother doesn't differentiate and uses mom and mama. They do know the difference, though. If you ask where mama is, they point to me and to my partner for mommy. It has been easier than we thought it would be.

We are Mommy and Mama also. We started out with me being Mama and then one day when our son was about 2 he decided I was Mommy and my partner was Mama. It's been that way ever since. Sometimes if he wants both of us he was call "Mommya."

I am Mama and my partner is Mama Nina...her real name is Christina, but we had a friend with a 2 yr old son who could not say Christina and always called her Nina. We thought it was so cute, so when we were trying to decide what to have our kids call us Mama Nina seemed like a good choice.

We went with mama and morema, which stands for "More Mama". They sound relatively close when said because they end in "ma", and even we think he's saying "mama", sometimes. So, no hassles at school, just sounds like a slip-up which he can correct or not correct. And maybe he'll change it...

I am Mommy/Mama and my partner is Muggy. My partner's family all call her Muggy so it was just natural that our 2 yo picked it up and uses it. That had been the plan when we first started trying to have a baby so it was great that our son was the one to start calling her that on his own.

Ditto, my wife is mommy and I am mamma but sometimes our boys (agers 4 and 2 but going on 15!) call me mommy. Even if they just say mommy or mom, we usually know who they are referring to. :-)

We are Mom and Mama. To make matters worse our first names are both the same. Somehow to our boys, it all makes sense and is perfectly fine. Good luck to you both!!!!

I just have to add, my 2 year old picks up very quickly. I am Mama and my partner is Mom. He noticed my niece calls her parents Mommy and Daddy and so now he does too. Not long ago my six year old met a new neighbor, a girl his age. I over heard her say, "but you must have a dad." "no," he said, "I have a mom and a mama....and I have a hermit crab." Life is just very simple to children. A shame all the grownups can't get with the program.

LOL... our son was supposed to call me "eema" - hebrew for mommy and my partner mommy. Well when he very young he started calling my partner mommy, but he called me Yaya... which hysterically has stuck and he is now 2yrs+ 4mos old. But I have not given up on the "eema" and hope one day he will change my name... LOL :p

Hi congratulation.. our 4 adopted kids call both of us "mom or mommy" if the wrong mom answer the kids are quick to say "other mommy." it's easy and I'd let the kids figure it out forthselves
