My partner and I Just got home from spending 5 days with my family. This TG was special, because everyone was there and doing well after a couple of horrible years health-wise for 2 of us. And, to make it even more special, my parents have said they will come dog sit their "Granddog" so my partner and I can go to Alaska!!!!! Yippee!!!! (I guess maybe I'll have to hide our "Dyke Duck" received on last year's cruise!) And, now my straight brother has decided he will most likely join us!!!! Maybe next year my whole family will decide to come!

On top of all that, it seems that my family has finally accepted me for who I am, and while I was told that if my partner and I ever split, it's "been nice knowing you," I know they really are very happy for me, and since they all credit my partner with saving my life (forget all the doctors, surgeons, nurses, etc.!), she will forever be in their good graces, and I think I am finally not the blacksheep anymore! Hmmm .. . That might be pushing it a bit!

Alaska, here we come!!!!!!

What a lovely Thanksgiving for you. I can tell how thrilled you are. Isn't it nice to not be the black sheep any longer? I knew that feeling for 5 years; it was not a good one.

I am thrilled to be going to Alaska also. A dream of a lifetime; hopefully the first of many dreams coming true :-)

You're absolutely right about me being thrilled! And, my brother has decided to definitely go with us, and I've already booked his room, so now he's stuck! Actually, he is extremely excited about the trip and has been telling everyone he works with that he's going on a gay family cruise with his sister and her partner!

When I just reread my previous comment and saw the Dyke Duck comment, I guess I should have explained that. When my parents were here visiting, my partner took that out to show my 71 year old Mom! Then after they went back home, I called Mom a few days later and jokingly apologized for Sheila trying to corrupt her. My Mom said it's even worse than I know, because she found the Dyke Duck in her suitcase when she got home! She was kidding, but for her to even say something like that ... she's come a long way!

ROFLMAO!!! That is just too kewl that your mom joked with you like that. You are an extremely lucky person :)

Actually, it's all due to my partner. My Mom has learned a lot from my partner, and it has definitely opened her up quite a bit. But really now. Pulling out the dyke duck to show my 71 year old Mom! Don't you think that might be considered a boundary problem? How about my partner wanting to let my Mom play with her IPOD. So she put "Strokin" on and handed it back to my Mom who then started beep bopping around the kitchen! If you don't know the song, just use your imagination and know it's probably far more graphic than anything you're imagining!

I promised my Mom to try to contain my partner around her from now on. But, there's always email! Oh well. It's a losing battle, so I guess I'll just let her corrupt my Mom to the fullest!

Take care,
Arlene
