Great story, Anne... Another...my son was in 2nd grade, they had an election in class. Most of the kids voted for George Bush. He stood up and asked how they could vote for someone that didn't like families like his. They didn't understand.. He went on to explain, families that had two moms. The 2nd graders could not believe that it was true and one buddy told his parents that he wanted to call George Bush to tell him that he was wrong! His republican father let him send a letter to Bush. Not bad, huh? Our kids will change the world. Thanks for the story. I'm sure there are many!!!

My 6 year old came out the other night wearing his "Let my parents marry" shirt, and said he wanted to wear it if Dick Cheney happened to be in town. I didn't even think he knew who he was, but he gave me a great eye-roll and said, "Mom, he's the vice-president. Didn't you know?"
I hope I'm around when our kids can vote!

The world is already changing... our lily white, Lutheran nephews, (4 and 5yo) adore their lesbian aunts and the Black and HIspanic cousins we've provided for them. They are very religious, but their parents have taught them that God is LOVE. Their parents were upset that we married in Canada and they couldn't afford to attend. I have hope.

our kids are 16 and 17..we've been together for 10 1/2 years. Oh the stories I could tell..much like yours!
On the cruise (or watch All Aboard with Rosie)..you will see what your children will grow up to be like..and their kids, and their kids. Wonderful feeling of hope.
Thanks for the stories, made me laugh out loud!

My kids are 14, 24, 26, 2 7, 32. And yes, our kids will change the world. My 14 year old has known nothing else other than being in a lesbian family. He gets so upset with his father and grandmothers about Bush, he cant understand how they could possibly like him and have voted for him. He is just now getting to the point of talking to them more about it, they are very intimidating to him so mostly he doesnt tell them anything, but he does voice his opinion of how wrong Bush is.
He loves the cruises, he says gay people are generally so much nicer than straight people, he thinks gay men are awesome. He also was upset with some of the straight people on the cruise that were less than tolerant of the many kids on board. I try to tell him that we have to accept straight people as much as they have to accept us, but he just feels way more comforable around gay people.
But yes, I think the world will be a much different place once these kids grow up and change the world.

Does anyone else think that gay families often look like a UNICEF convention held on Fire Island?
(Disclaimer: This is a potentially humurous observation and not meant to claim anything negative about gay families UNICEF, Fire Island, or non-ethnic gay families.)

I think that it's great that we're challenging assumptions about race, family, gender roles and parenthood. I love going to events and seeing kids from so many different ethnic backgrounds, sometimes in one family.
