Hello Everyone
ok i have entered the contest and i really hope that i will be one of the 50 people that win, it would so awesome to go and see rosie live,
keep your fingers crossed for us, this would be the best holiday gift we could ever ask for.
this is so refreshing to television and i can only imagine what a great show it will be,
these variety shows remind me of when we first came to america back in 1970 and we didnt speak a word of english, i come from 11 children and 1 year after we came to america my father passed away he was only 39 years old at the time, and mom was left to raise all 11 of us on her own. she didnt speak any enlgish either and all she had here in america was my fathers family and us kids, she did what a mother does best and love us and keep us strong. she would watch variety shows at night like sonny and cher/ laugh in / carol burnette and so many others that we would sit there and watch it with her since we only had 1 television and there were a bunch of small kids to keep happy at the same time, so over the years we watched these shows and believe it or not we learned so much from them espcially the enlish language, it really helped us alot, it taught us how to keep smiling and keep going through such hard times with the loss of our father and of course for my mother her love and soul mate. so over the years as we got older and mom still always watching as many variety shows as she could or what ever was left on television since over the years the varety shows were less and less. mom passed away in 1992 suddenly, what a shock to say the least and how sad i still am at times for i miss her so much. so when i heard that rosie wanted to bring shows like we had back then, i suddenly was taken back over 38 years ago and got that great feeling again like i use to have and started remembering how beautiful it was growing up and having those great shows and how much we miss them, those shows gave us some sort of comfort and we escaped into another world for that time that they were on.
michael and i really wish rosie the best of luck and hopefully nbc will air these shows everyweek, WOULD BE GREAT.
just wanted to share my feelings on how great it is to have variety shows on t.v.
hugs and kisses to all,

Hey Mikey and Johnny.
Nice post. I started to remember just being so excited to see Donny and Marie, and Cher.
I barely remember the Sonny and Cher show. I do remember my dad just rolling on the floor while watching Laugh In. I thought Carol Burnett was fantastic. Wow I just remembered Hee Haw while I was sitting here. Wow that was long ago.
I hope you guys win the tickets. I was going to enter but the tickets are not transferable.
I will watch for you on TV.

You guys are a variety show all by yourself
Yes I would Love to have RO
in our living roms every week with
that feeling that you spoke of I can remember back to when my Dad would wait for the Ed Sullivan Show
to come on at 8.
I can hear Sonny and Cher closing their Show with
I Got you Babe..Rown and Martin's Laugh In.
Those were different times..A different world.I think that Ro could bring some of that back.
Enough reality how about some entertainment. Some truth.
We get enough reality with this 24 7 world we live in.

I was hoping for tickets too. I'm from San Francisco but my partner's family is in New Jersey and we flew in last night, Monday for Thanksgiving. I was hoping there'd be a message on my cell phone on arrival but nothing. Darn! My partner has given me Wednesday off (we have twin boys, almost 2) and I'm going to see Billy Elliot. I was so hoping to stay in the city after the show and seeing Rosie at 8pm. Darn!!! I have one more hope for getting in thru work. I guess I'll find out soon enough if that came thru.

:D Humm... a lot of banter before the show and then nothing after... that's STRANGE!
It doesn't look like there is going to be another Rosie Live ... both the ratings and the reviews were... um... shall we say... less than fortunate.
Honesty is the best policy... unless, of course, you think not having an opinion somehow serves the better good... or, at least, your own personal interests.
Cheeks... Lips... Open... Kiss...
I enjoyed... um... that little skit with the girl where Rosie played a cop... I enjoyed Jane Kaz singing and stripping... and I enjoyed Alanis Morrisette... but that was about it. I love holiday specials... but Rosie Live didn't seem like one.
Rosie is a talented woman... but she needs to STOP surrounding herself with "yes" men--especially her usual dancers and singers--and start accepting critiques from the masses... before it's too late. ;)
Just an opinion... go ahead... rip into me like a Monkey on a Cupcake... I stand by my opinion whether it is "popular" or not.
I think the lack of a response here is quite telling... I'm only writing to evoke one...
Always a Rosie fan... but not a kiss-ass...

Why Douglas this is America, why in the world would anyone challenge your opinion? Yes it was bold, no it wasn't received well, and I think some people follow that old adage...If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Not terribly helpful for growth but useful for graciousness,
I am pretty sure that the critics made it clear what was the masse impression and suits for NBC lineup clearly operate on their principles, alone. I for one look forward to seeing Rosie live on the R Family cruises, which may be the only way I can. For some people, fans, that is a luxury some can't afford. I love you for noticing an elephant in the living room but on this one I am okay with not joining in the defense of fundamental freedoms. Say what you all will, mine is just another nickel in the penny jar, love you, love your efforts TJ

We watched, we hoped, we went to bed early....while I am sure the cruise will be fun, I don't think that Rosie is now the main attraction...nor should she ever have been. She has a kind heart, but to pull off that kind of show takes more talent than the usual talk show host has......
Valentine
11-30-2008, 05:55 PM
Okay.. I will voice my opinion.. I differ with the opinion of Rosie not having enough talent to pull off that kind of show... essentially.. if she had perhaps allowed a bit more of her "talk show" self out.. and the show had not been so scripted... then.. perhaps it could have been better. The show had its good moments.. and its bad... overall.. it was not what we had all hoped and envisioned it to be... BUT... to look at it from the other side of the spectrum.. a show of that magnitude needs to be scripted, when live, in order for everything to work.... unfortunately, for Rosie.. scripted does not work for her. She is at her best when she is just being herself.... not trying to play "Rosie" I think the show could work if it went to taped.. with a live studio audience... and if the "variety" was there.. some more skits... less commercials... and more of Rosie just being who she is.... (ie, less makeup!) It is unfortunate if this will lead to the end of the idea... sometimes you have to tweak something to make it work.. that why broadway shows did "out of town try-outs" Now we call them "previews"... but.. it gives the producers an opportunity to see what works and what doesn't... make some changes.. and give the audience what they want... I hope that someone sees that the amount of viewers who did tune in would want a 2nd chance...
Just my opinion.....

OK, sorry it took so long to post but here it is. We did make it to Rosie's show even with the many obstacles that were in our way.
We didn't see the email notification that we won until Tuesday night and it said to reply within 12 hours and it was way past 24 hours. We replied anyway and never got back to check our mail again .. good thing.
Everything just seemed to fall into place for us. On Wednesday we had to scramble for a babysitter (8 hours worth). Getting to NYC from the Jersey Shore in time for the show (we had to be there by 6:30) with holiday traffic is no picnic so we had to have alternate routes planned. We ended up driving and listening to the traffic reports the entire way and that choice paid off. The trains had switch problems and were running late and our usual route (Lincoln Tunnel) was all backed up. For the first time we took the Holland and immediately got stuck in traffic that was trying to get out of the city. We were still 20 blocks away and it was 6:10. A lady on the corner gave us an alternate route and we sailed right up to the theatre (past the docks were we left on the July 2008 cruise). While looking for a gargage we again got in traffic trying to get out of the city through the Lincoln. That made us go around a block to get out of there and .. bingo .. a parking gargage right there .. and only $19 for the night too!
We made it to the theatre by about 6:28, went to the will call line for Rosie's bloggers and that's when we were told we were on stand-by because our tickets were given away! Our hearts sank! So we waited, and waited. We were 8th in line but found out that only one person ahead of us was 'on the list' so we kept our fingers crossed. We met a self proclaimed Rosie stalker that was in front of us in line (she follows Rosie around the country and brings her nuts .. really .. nuts) and two nice women behind us from Jersey/RI. We were hoping they'd get in too. At 7:30 a women came out holding only TWO envelopes! By this time my nerves were totally shot! She went down the list of names and the one person in front of us was called. He only needed one ticket so he gave one away. More names and no takers .. FINALLY .. YES .. OUR NAME WAS CALLED!!!! WE GOT THE LAST TWO TICKETS! In we go at 7:50! We get to our seats and I'm ready for a breakdown but instead decide not now because it's time to have some fun!
Immediately I noticed that it all looked familar. It was very much like being on the cruise and going to one of the shows. A very small theatre with familar faces all around; cruisers, rFamily workers, Bobby, Seth, Tammy (Rosie's Broadway Kids), Kelli and family, Rosie's friends (Janeen?). There was the warm up comic and she told us what we could do (clap, laugh) and couldn't do (leave our seat, no pictures, no cell phones, don't talk to the stage). It was very exciting to watch all the timing, count downs, etc. Rosie was herself .. talking to the audience, the director etc. It was time for the show to start .... 3,2,1 .. go! The Audience gave her a big hello (It was genuine ... not do to our practicing before hand).
I also noticed it was very dark and casual and I wondered how it would translate to TV. I realized that it was a stage show that was being fed to TV and not a big time studio show, so I was hopeful that things would turn out OK for Rosie. Well, we all know now that it didn't translate well.
The performers were great and seeing Liza, Gloria (she almost didn't make it out on stage in time), Harry, Clay etc. etc. was a real treat. We were having a blast. Rosie talked and joked during the commercials just like on the cruise. To her family, her nanny, Sharon Gless and others out in the audience. The usual jokes and then some. She also had to run the show, cut some things out because it was on 'the fat side' of 2 minutes (the show was running long). Rosie thought is was appropriate to call it the 'fat side'. LOL
Last, but not least .. the gifts. OMG! Yes we did get all those gifts! Both of us! I didn't even think of the gifts until someone mentioned it when we were in the stand-by line. Our daughter (8 years old) watching at home jumped off the couch when she saw the we got a Rip-Stick! Because of the day we had to get there and the fact that I hadn't eaten all day I was hoping for the Ring Dings and milk under the seat like she did for TROS but I'm not complaining! LOL
All in all it was a great time. Everything we went through was certainly worth it and I'm glad Rosie made the attempt. I feel we were very lucky to be a part of it. Personally I still think it could work and that we need a variety show on TV just not in the 'Broadway to TV' format. Doesn't seem like it will happen tho from reading Rosie's blog.
Thanks for all the congrats and comments on this forum. We are lucky to be a part of the rFamily too. Such a great group of people. We are looking forward to Alaska ... can't come soon enough!

Thanks for the great behind-the-scenes peek at the show. And I'm glad you BOTH got ALL of those cool gifts! As you wrote, as well as Cuban Pete, Douglas, etc... it's a great idea that just didn't translate well. I feel bad for Rosie, knowing she gave it her best shot, but I know we all hope she finds just the right project in the future! (And still have time to entertain us on the cruises!)
