Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to start a chat forum for single/single parent cruisers. I am a single parent of 4 wonderful boys in which 2 of them will be traveling with me to Alaska. This is our 5th cruise with Rfamily and I am excited about going to Alaska again. It is always nice to chat with other single parents who will be traveling because I find it hard to meet other single parents once we get on the boat. They do have single mixers but often they are a conflict with time. So my thinking is we can start chatting here and make friends ahead of time.

Hope to hear from other single parents.

Michael,

No, I did not get it. It is always nice to meet single parents especially dads. What other cruise did you go on? The Alaska cruise is going to be so much fun...I can not wait.

I've been on one other r family cruise. I tried to send you your own message a couple of times. Did you get it?

Michael

Got it and send you one. Sorry for the confusion.

Hi, I'm Mark in NJ. I will be traveling with my son Liam, who will be nearly 7 by then. It's our first cruise - have no idea what to expect but I think Liam will like hanging with the kids and I'm hoping for a little down time to enjoy the shows and excursions. We arrive in Seattle on Thursday. mark1276@aol.com

I am considering travelling myself this year as my partner is not able to make this cruise and I have always wanted to travel to Alaska. I have not signed up for the cruise as I am a little fearful of travelling myself. Are there opportunities to meet others so you are not doing everything alone.

There are plenty of chances to meet other people on the Cruise.Thre are sheduled events that are on your daily schedule that you recieve on your bed at night. There are callled Mixers. They plan dinners.cocktail parties for all various groups that have common interests.I also know some other poeple that are traveling without there partners because of scheduling conflicts.Alaska is breathtaking and if you are going to see it.It should be with us. I will personally introduce you to at least 200 people at the Kiskoff party.

The people are so friendly on this Cruise that you can stike up a conversation anywhere. Also there is a Pre Cruise Dinner the night before that we host just for that reason so people know other Cruisers prior to the Cruise.Believe me you will not be alone.I travel with about 20.Every Cruise we meet people that just hook up and spend the whole Cruise with us.I also know about half the people going on the Cruise.I will introduvce you to them. There is the Kickoff party poolside 4 oclock. That is the place to be. You can't miss me I am the one that looks like abig Pride Flag.

Take the plunge it is a once in a lifetime experience.
Please feel free to emal me I will give you my number if you want to talk about the Cruise.
Oh forgot to introduce myself.

Hi Lisa,

Even when you think you may be doing something alone, like going to show, or going to gamble, it never ever works. My experience is that people always talked to me, included me with their joking around. I am very shy and never have been too assertive even when I should have been and I made a bunch of friends and ended up on excursions with them, Also, you will not be the only single I am sure. This is how I have traveled and I have never been alone unless I was in my cabin. One night I was sitting in the window seat, by the casino and watching a school/herd/pod of dolphins. People passing by always talked to me asked why I was sitting there alone, Since I have seven kids I value my "off" time and for a moment got perturbed that no one would seem to walk by without talking to me. Mind you it was only 30 mins but no one just passed me by. Come along, you won't regret it. TJ

The pre-cruise dinner would be great. I plan to arrive a day before the cruise since I am travelling from across the country and over a border - Canada. I would welcome any ideas about places to stay in Seattle, if you know any, and anything else I should know.

HI Lisa,

I too am going alone.. went on the Canada cruise in July alone also... I was a Little nervous but that feeling quickly goes away... just find us board folks and you will NEVER be alone for the rest of the trip!

As far as a hotel.. I too am coming in a day before.. actually 2 days before.. and found a great deal on Priceline.. A few of us got the Westin for $140.00 per night. If you are willing to give priceline a try.. put in hotels near downtown seattle, 3 stars and bid $140.00 you SHOULD end up with the Westin... several people have been lucky up until just a day or so ago. So.. give it a shot!

Hey there Everyone,
If you have not booked a hotel room in Seattle for the night before the cruise, you had better do it REAL soon, as there's a couple other conventions in Seattle at the same time.
My friend and I are staying at the Ramada Inn Downtown and I wanted to upgrade my room and was told they were sold out. SO, don't wait any longer, book them NOW!

Hello-

Yes,.. Single (widowed), late 30's Mom to an 8 year old son, this will be our first rfamily cruise. We went on a Disney cruise last year, he had a great time. I have cruised to Alaska before (many years ago before our son was born) and it will be nice to go back with him and connect with like minded families.

Looking forward to meeting all of you...

Hi Janice (and all)-

How generous for you to share the story of your partners passing via your webpage. I'm sorry for your loss.

I lost my partner of 14 years to breast cancer, she passed away last fall. She was young, (and since i'm still in my in my 30s I like to think I am too!) . We had our son together when I was still in my 20's. It's unusual to find other lesbian widows,... so nice to meet you.....Look forward to meeting you and your family (and everyone else too) on the ship.

And thanks Cheryl for the welcome- No, I'm not going to the pre-cruise dinner. I actually live in Seattle and am thinkin' I'll have plenty of time to get to know everyone on the boat.

Thanks again for the welcome...
Best- Jenna

hello all ...

I'm happy to be coming back for my 3rd RFamily cruise - there's just no staying away from that very special vibe that lives aboard the big, gay boat.

I haven't done a lot of socializing on previous cruises, because I come to deliver the rock band experience to teens, so I've been using that as an excuse to not 'get out' (as opposed to admitting to myself that I'm a nerdy bird who finds it challenging. :o)

I have a 16yr old daughter, Mackenzie, who has found some of her most important friends on RFamily vacations. I am used to spending a ton of time with my dear 'little' loved-one, so it's a fun change of gears to not see her for 7 days straight!

I look forward to making connections with many of you in July ...
til then :o)

Single guy with no kids here sailing with you!

I am teaching some dance classes aboard and some square dancing. I have instructed and hosted on straight cruises before, but not on a gay cruise so I am excited! I posted a few times on a different thread about "singles/couples with no kids"...but it just seemed it was couples looking for other couples and not singles...I was a bit dismayed. But...hopefully there will be some single's events and no one will care that I don't have kids! [you'd think there'd be a special hanky code for all this!]

Hi! I'm a single lesbian travelling with another single lesbian friend. We are from Seattle and this will be our first R Family Cruise. We're psyched!!

Ben:
R Place isn't far from The Marriot, but unless you want to walk up steep hills for 20+ blocks you wouldn't want to walk. Depending on traffic it is probably a 10 minute cab ride.

R Place is a good walk up some hills from the waterfront, so a taxi might be in order. I'd say 1 1/2 miles.

Doesn't look like a time has been chosen for R Place yet.

Kewl Beanz!

I'm not sure exactly of the schedule yet...but I will be doing Square Dancing on deck one day, a Swing Class for adults and a then a teen and a "little kids" class...probably a line dance class too. There is always so much going on on the ship and so much entertainment...but they are squeezing me in!

I hope there will be some Big Band evening music so we can dance too. The last cruise I went on as a passenger I still played "Dance Host" at Ballroom Hour one night...danced with a few women, but is was poorly attended and we only stayed about 1/2 an hour.

I wish I would get my cabin assingment...I want to book a few shore excursions!

I am excited about the dance classes. I have always wanted to learn square dancing. Will the little kids class be suitable for 4 year olds. One of my son's loves to dance around the house although he is very shy, but I'm hoping he will join in on the fun if 4 is not to young.

Welcome Aboard Roy!

Any luck finding a roomate yet? Hey...if the deal is good paying for the cabin as a single...enjoy it! I will have a cabin to myself, though it isn't assigned yet as a staff member, but when I travel with a friend I usually use the facilities at the gym and leave the cabin bathroom to my roomate. The showers and steam are so much nicer anyway!

I will be on the cruise as a single.
This wasn't the original intent, however. I had booked the cruise for my partner and myself as our belated honeymoon (3 years.)
But he left me quite suddenly before I even had a chance to surprise him with the tickets.
I debated whether I should go or not. I already paid for the cabin. And I could definitely use some time away.
I am pretty nervous about doing this by myself. I am not a very outgoing person. But once I get comfortable with people, I think I am pretty good company.
I guess I'm just hoping that doing the cruise as a single won't be enbarrassing or lonely. :(

Thanks for the words of welcome and encouragement.
Being newly single again kind of threw me for a loop.
The whole idea of the cruise seems a good fit for me though. It's a cruise to a place I have always wanted to see; it's a trip with GLBT "family" and supportive friends; it's a social-based cruise (as opposed to meat-market cruises I've seen advertised - and let's face it... I am not Prime Cut by any means!); it's family oriented so there will be adults as well as children (I was an elementary school teacher for many years and I love being with kids); and I have never done anything like this!
I am looking forward to this experience. Hopefully, I will have the time of my life and make some wonderful new friends. But at the very least, I think it will be good for me to get away from everything for a week and clear my head.
Looking forward to a great time!
Frank :)

I am also travelling alone this year as my partner is unable to make the trip. I am sure you will meet lots of great people. I hope you are going to the pre-cruise dinner because I am sure it will be a great chance to make a few friends before the cruise. There seems to be quite a few singles on the cruise and you likely need a vacation. :)

Frank:
I 'm glad you are having a better outlook about the cruise! You are going to have the time of your life!! BTW I’m not a “Prime Cut” either but I still have fun. Age or looks has never gotten me down!!
Can’t wait!!!! 14 more days!!!!

And I was worried about not being a “Prime Cut” too.

haha
Go ahead and eat the carbs!!!
Although I'm saving up some of mine for the cruise. I'm afraid they may have to lift me off the ship with a crane when we dock back in Seattle!!
