I noticed on the packing list that a white noise device should be brought along. Is the ship that noisy?

We brought a white noise machine only 'cause we have a box fan at home who's noise we're used to sleeping with. A little difficult to pack that fan ;)

We were only bothered by noise outside the cabin on one night and that was only a group of people going by LATE at night. Otherwise, it was like a cocoon in there.

The noise outside the room never bothered me. We were in a balcony room the first year and an inside cabin last year, and slept as well both times. In the inside cabin, with no outside light, it actually was easier to sleep because it was dark at all times. But the noise in the hallway was never a problem. As least to us.

An inside cabin is more noisy than an outside. Inside you can hear many of the mechanical systems (e.g., plumbing, air conditioning, vacuum toilets). For us, this became its own white noise.

We have never had a problem falling to sleep. Probable because we have been so busy in the day and stayed up late. The help of a midnight snack and desserts might have helped as well. The gentile rocking of the ship also was conducive to falling asleep.

The inside cabin is almost pitch black. We left a light on in the bathroom, which shined out under the door, and provided just enough to act as a nightlight. We did oversleep a few times, probably because of the lack of light, and being tired as well.

Because we will be way up north, it will be light outside until late, and begin to lighten early in the morning. If you have an outside cabin, you may have to use the curtains to get a full night’s sleep.

If you are a very light sleeper, then some white noise, or an IPod with speakers might help you or your child out.

This my 100th post. I talk way too much! Anyway we had some noise the first year because we were below the kitchen. Gregg moved us to another room and it was quite. This year they are full so it might be good to take one if you have it just in case. Don't think there will be any room swapping.

Does anyone remember if the bathrooms in your rooms have a fan? Would that work for white noise? I have done that in hotel rooms before?

I am 99,9% sure they do not.

I strongly suggest that if you are sensitve to noise to bring a sound machine. All cabins are full this year, so if you are in one that happens to be noisy, there is nowhere else to really go. it is always better to be safe and enjoy your sleep!!

Thanks Kelli, we are going on a search this weekend for a white noise machine.
If all else fails a small fan should do the trick!

We have a white noise machine. In our adoption classes they recommend them to help children sleep. Ours actually has about 14 sounds from static, to bubbling creek, to train, even city, there is also a heartbeat which our kids think is a dinosaur heartbeat. So you can set it to whatever sounds your child is used to. There is even one sound that is meant to be rainforest, but it just freaks my kids out.

Here are a few I found online:

Walmart 19.88

Target 19.99

http://www.brookstone.com/shop/product.asp?product_code=467019&search_type=search&search_words=sound%20machine&prodtemp=t2&cm_re=Result*R1C2*T
Brookstone $60

Remember when you shop online at Walmart or Brookstone to use your www.UPromise.com, www.Fatwallet.com, or similiar link to put money in your kids college savings account or money in your pocket.

I always sleep with a white noise machine. First in my apartment and now in my house. I have a more expensive one from the Sharper Image. I've had the others but they don't work as well. I definitely recommend it. It's $99 but better than the other one I got at Sears. and lasted a lot longer too.

Hmmm, new idea to check out. While we sleep well I do put the AC blower/fan on all night to block out noises that make the dogs bark. It works but one of these machines might end up being alot less expensive to use regularly. Sure will pick one up and give it a try. Thanks for the heads up :)

Get the one from The Sharper Image. They have stores all over the place. It has 30 different sounds. I like the ocean ones. (my friends think that i'm nuts to play that sound on the cruise but tough on them). It plays great and has an ac adapter which a lot of the cheaper ones don't.

soft earplugs work good!
