Hi I have never been on a cruise. And not sure what room to book? I have two kids plus my partner. A son 8 and a daughter 3. The rooms say they sleep 4 but when i look at the room it only shows two beds?

Under one of the beds is a pull out and on the wall there is a pull down bed. We slept 3 in our room it was small but you really spend so little time in the room it does not matter. You're going to have the best vacation ever!!:)

I was able to swing a balcony room last trip... and yes.. it was beautiful... but.. as said above.. I was hardly ever in it!! I didn't want to miss a thing! LOL! BUT.. with a 3 year old.. you may be spending some nap time there... I will say that the rooms are EXACTLY how they appear on the website.... I decided to go with an inside cabin this trip.. because when I saw my friends who had the inside cabins, I said.. wow.. those are not too bad either... soooooo go for what you can afford.

I have tried inside, room with view, and balcony. We have a large family so it takes two rooms and even then we sleep four to an inside room. We book one inside for sleeping, and one balcony for hanging out in with the overflow people sleeping in there, but we also spend very little time in our room. It is tight for four, but there is enough room to sleep, put clothes etc. Depending on your families economics you can decide from there what is the best fit. If you can handle it though a balcony is best. I second that you will not regret this choice for minute. Looking forward to seeing you and yours, TJ and family.

I was told this a thousand times, but it's true. You are NEVER in your room. Nothing to think about...you just tend to go out. I only napped in the room in the afternoon. Other than that I showered and left, or came in and crashed.
I loved my inside room, it was nice and dark, and there was no sun to wake me up in the morning. However, I think four people in an inside room might be claustrophobic. It was just me in there. The system of taking an inside and outside room for a large group sounds good, though.
Most important thing, though, is to be conscious of what is above, below and to the sides of you.
I kept hearing "Wheeee!"....and "Wow!!!" and "Yaaay!" my first few nights...Then I saw that my room was right under one of the gaming tables in the casino.

My family had an inside room for the last Alaska cruise and it had its pros/cons. The pros were that when we hit that huge storm, we didn't feel it as bad as our friends who had balconies. Also, it stays light longer at night and we were very content and able to sleep.
the con I must admit is that we probably missed some gorgeous views from a balcony. When the obnoxious park ranger was talking, we were up stairs with everyone else.......It may have been nicer to have sat on a balcony to take in all of the scenery.
We did it with two adults and a teenager that stayed out until 1:00 p.m. every night. It was workable but as everyone else said..........you find reasons not to be in your room and there are plenty of them. Keep in mind though, going to Alaska is not like a carribean cruise and you shouldn't plan to be at the pool all day.........I saw kids doing it but it was pretty cold.
Peace,
Lisa

we had an inside room for the July cruise and loved it!!
Because it's the Alaskan Cruise we booked a balcony(Today Woo Hoo!!!)...we don't want to miss one second..I'm not sure what the 'park ranger' thing is....this is only our 2nd cruise. Due to the 'woopin' and hollerin' we made sure we were not under or over the Fun stuff! We are on Deck 9 again and it was really really quiet!
I can't wait for your Alaskan feedback Cheryl...you were our 'cruise bible' for July....mucho Gratitude!!!! Now, this time could you teach us how to play black jack???

Hey Crazy, After you were named a stalker of sorts, I decided to keep a little quiet. On the summer cruise Linda had a slight stroke flying into NY and didn't make the cruise. While I had a blast, and so did my kiddos, (thanks to all the helping hands) I wasn't sure if she would try Alaska. She committed today when she saw the site. Yea we'll be there. Missing all you yellow bearers. TJ Oh and thank you Kelsey

thanks for all the help. do any of the rooms hold 5 people three adults two kids?
travelchix
10-16-2008, 12:38 PM
The only room that would hold the 5 of you would be the AB penthouse, which is actually made up of a large bedroom for 2, swanky bathroom, and a separate second "children's" room with a pull out sofa (double) and a pullman bed that pulls down from the wall. THere is also a second bathroom. These are being sold by R Family at a price of 9699 for up to 5 people. Note that it may be a bit tight in the "children's room" depending on the ages of the children. A better (and potentially cheaper) option may be two inside rooms or the family oceanview (with a window) that sleeps up to 8 (but includes 2 beds that can accommodate 2 adults as well as pull out sofas and pull down beds for kids). The family suites have adjoining rooms, meaning like hotels there is a door between the cabins that can be opened so you have the equivalent of one, two-room cabin.
You can find candid pics of balcony cabins and above on my blog, below, including a really nice explanation with pictures of the AB penthouse.
