Hello All,

I hope someone can help me? I am planning on joining the 2009 cruise, and have questions about the rooms. I will be traveling with two other couples and possibly my twin brother. Could anyone give me some advice on what rooms would be best? Are the family rooms only geared towards families? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

that's hard as we'll be sailing on a different ship than we've ever used.

We are not sure how "sold-out" the ship is at this point, your best bet would probably be to get adjoining staterooms or rooms that are as close together as possible. Some people have posted that they have heard all of the family suites are already sold out. Honestly, if you have never been on a cruise you will probably think the rooms are small no matter what size room you get. But it really doesn't matter because you are not going to want to be in your room at all, you are going to want to be out meeting new people and taking in the shows and EATING and EATING again...and watching Alaska as we cruise along and oh. EATING.

Drop r fam an email and see what they say about availability so you can make the right choice, and if you need any more help deciding the people on the forum are always willing to help. :)

Thank you so much for your help! I have been exchanging emails with Gregg, and guess I am just a little impatient! ;)

Thanks again!!

Hello All,

I have one more question regarding the rooms. I realize that this is a brand new ship, but could someone help clarify to me how the family staterooms are set up? My group is fine with getting the lowest inside rooms, but i ws looking at the staterooms and it would save us a lot. I read that most of them are probably sold out, but could someone just explain to me how they are set up/ how many beds are in the rooms/are soem of the beds desgined for kids????? Thanks again!!

Check out NCL's website and look specifically at the Sun's deck plans, etc. If I were you, I would be open to their website and give NCL a call directly with your questions....NCL is going to be better equipped to answer questions that are specific to their individual cabins than R Family.

A thousand thank you's!!!! I am so extremely excited of the possibility of going on this cruise, and if this forum is any type of clue as to the general atmosphere on the boat I am in for a real treat!!

The "family" suites are sold as one price (not per person as the other rooms). They are the same types of cabins, but what R Family does is take all the adjoining cabins on a cruise and turn them into Family Suites. So for example, two adjoining balcony rooms, each sleeping up to 4, is sold as a family suite that sleeps 8. If you have more than 2 people per room, these are usually a better deal pricewise. BUT each individual room (other than perhaps the high end suites), is geared towards 2 adults (with any extra beds being pull out sofa beds, rollaways, or bunks that flip out of the wall, at this better geared towards children). So in the two balcony room family suite, for example, you'd have a total of two queen sized beds, 2 pull down bunks, and 2 small loveseat-sized pull out sofas.

Given the lack of storage space and general "small"-ness of the rooms, it can be a tight fit for more than 2 adults (and sometimes with just 2 :p ). That said, to save money some cruisers do sleep more than 2 adults to a room, so it is doable, if a bit cramped. I would sugget maybe 3 insides if you can swing it- 2 could be adjoining (a "family suite"), but I'm not sure how much $ that will save you.

If you want to see more candid pictures of the different rooms, you can look at my blog- there's a post that links to at least one picture of each of the most popular types of rooms. Edited to add: the best picture that will give you an idea of what a room with all of the beds made up looks like is the "balcony that sleeps 4 picture"- you can see the fold-down bunk, the sofa bed (which can also pull out lengthwise), and the main bed. Interior cabins sleeping 4 or 5 will have a different layout, but similar coziness.
