I just read in today's paper that Lisa Pond's partner has filed a lawsuit against Jackson Memorial Hospital (Miami, FL) for "negligence and "anti-gay animus" in refusing to recognize her and the children as Pond's family, even after power of attorney was faxed to the hospital within an hour of their arrival."
If you don't recall, Lisa Pond and her family were on the cruise to the Caribbean when she was struck with a brain aneurysm and rushed to the hospital, she did not survive.
As a gay Florida resident I was ashamed and sickened by the treatment of their family, especially the children. This is why I will vote NO on amendment 2, this is why FL law needs to change.
I am truly sorry for the family's loss, but I am glad it is being made public with this lawsuit. It is on the front page of the local section of the Sun-Sentinel, hopefully it will get the attention of the powers that be. Though this is Flori-duh, so one can only hope.
Janice, my prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. You are fighting for all of us with this lawsuit.

Thanks Crazy! The website is www.sun-sentinel.com and it was on the opening page, near the bottom. The article in the paper was longer and mentioned the cruise, of course they described R Family Vacations in a Flori-duh way, as being "for gays", not families, friends, really ticked (being polite) me off. But as I said, hopefully someone will pay attention and do the right thing!

there are tons of links to the actual lawsuit.. which we filed in FEDERAL court b/c of the jurisdictional issues along with media coverage from CNN to NBC to ABC etc. I just got home from Florida on 6/29 after filing the suit and then being the Grand Marshall of the St. Petersburg, FL pride parade.

I saw the news and the TV coverage.I admire you so much.
I hope that it opens the minds and eyes of the narrow and prevents any FAMILY
from having to endure what your family did in an already bad situtuin.
Glad that you are coming on the Cruise.

Janice and kids...I was so appalled how you were treated in our state with Lisa's sudden tragedy.. Thank you for having the courage to fight the less than gay family friendly state that I live in.
I believe in equal rights for all....I think our kids will be the ones that change the thought process hopefully altogether.
Wishing you success in this hard battle. Marie

Hello all, trying to reach enough people. So many know how horrible the children and I were treated at Jackson Memorial in Miami. LAMBDA has filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of the children and I for keeping us apart from Lisa for nearly 8hours even though I had a medical power of attorney.
Lambda is also doing a national campaign to give to the new President demanding that all LGBT and person with HIV be treated with respect while receiving treatment. Please sign the petiton that can be found at the link below
