Hey all,

After reading all the positive remarks regarding things to do for single travelers I pulled the trigger on the February Caribbean cruise. So now it would be great to get a feel for how many other single/solo travelers there might be. If you haven't seen the documentary on HBO, do so and then you'll be rushing to the phone to book - for those of us looking for solo vacation ideas and alternatives from the "floating discos", I think this is going to be a great enriching experience.

Looking forward,

Bailey

I have been jumping around the forums trying to get a feel for what it's like to travel solo and activities and/or opportunities for meeting other singles. It was a tough decision for me to decide to go-it-alone, but I'm challenging myself. I've read a few posting about singles with kids not interested in meeting singles without. I'm really hoping that is not the case. I'm interested in a family myself, with or without a partner and would like to hear other experiences. Plus I have an awesome nephew that I'm lucky enough to get to spend a lot of time with, so I can easily bore you to death with cute nephew stories - you won't have to be concerned about boring me with yours - I'd love to hear them.

Bailey,
You're going to have a GREAT time! We were surprised by the number of singles onboard last summer. A single male friend of ours was onboard (not planned, but we were happy to see him!), and he loved it. The singles seem to have their own gathering places, and our friend had a great time hanging out with many of the single entertainers who R Family brought on the cruise. I know that R Family arranges several singles events and mixers early in the cruise for the singles to meet. And...if you like Broadway-type entertainment, that alone is reason to sail with R Family!

24601, glad for the feedback so thanks! I'm thinking it's going to be a "wait and see" kind-o-thing and then try and go with the flow. I have no solid agenda but I tend to be more of a loner than joiner so I'll need to work at engaging myself - hence a decent mix of single/solo travelers. I'm not discounting connecting with other groups or couples, but again it's all about going with the flow. I figure a 10 month lead chatting in the forum will help. Unfortunately I'm really good at entertaining myself so I either come home with new friends and great adventures to share or a couple of good books under my belt and the master of a few PSP games. Either way it's still the Caribbean, so how bad could it be?

JennyGirl, I have wasted too much time waiting for friends to commit to vacations. I went from "no-way" to "maybe" and finally got luke warm on the idea. And after watching the documentary the second time went straight to "why not". Sometimes you just got to step out and go for it!

I am single without kids (I am a teacher...so I actually have 250+ kids) and went alone on the cruise last year. I had such a great time, I am going again this year. You can always keep busy. I can't wait. Maybe we will meet.
See ya in Alaska

I'm hoping to make some introductions via this forum. At the very least it will help break the ice.

Hey All,

We have a straight couple going with us on the Feb 2007 Caribbean Cruise. I know that the wife is feeling the same way as alot of you are. I told our friends that everyone is welcomed on this cruise, whether they are gay/bi/lesbian/transgendered/ or straight and just to relax and have fun.

I believe the Cruise is about acceptance and being who you are and not what society expects you to be.

I can't wait to see and meet all of you on the cruise.

I'm a happily committed 44 year old woman, but wanting to take the cruise myself! My "wife" can't get the time off from work...would you be interested in the possibilty of sharing your cabin with another "single" traveller"? By the time I called for a reservation, I could only get on the waitlist. I'd really love to get onto the cruise for the trip to Alaska and for the comfortable community feel of a gay cruise and the family atmosphere.
