How about organizing a host hotel for gay families during Gay Days at Disney in 2007. Currently, all the events tend to be adult oriented, so it would be nice to have a host hotel to bring the kids, hang out at the pool and go to the theme parks together. Shouldn't be too expensive and definetely fun for everyone.

I would TOTALY agree. What fun that would be ...and I think it's about time our community gets more opportunities to see us parents out. Again, I couldn't agree more.;)

This would be Disneyland in CA, right?

I think that would be great! I know they do a gay weekend at Disney in Florida. It would be cool to do a whole week there.

We would love to go to Disney Land for Gay Days, especially if it were family oriented. We've gone to 6 Flags up in the Bay Area and were dissapointed when all of the children's rides were closed.

Just FYI--I think Gay Days at DIsney World is early June, but for those interested in Gay Days at Disneyland in CA, it is scheduled this year for Oct.6-8. We are planning to go for the first time, though we know a couple families from here in San Francisco who have gone for the last 2-3 years and really enjoyed it. They said there are still few LGBT parent families there, though, so a bunch of us going would be great.

Hey Guys,
Just so you know Disney World has experienced protestors from the Christian Action Network during "gay days" for the past several years. In addition to this there are so called "Christians" who buy tickets and try to "witness" to gay families as they are in the park. I also feel compelled to let you know that while this event may be at Disney it is not geared towards children. Last year drugs were so rampant that the Orlando Police had drug sniffing dogs stationed inside and outside the host hotel. Just some food for thought.
The dates this year are 5-29 through 6-4.
Here is a link to the Christian Action Networks article on "Gay Days".
These people are extreme and tend to scare most kiddos.

Yes, I will reiterate the above comment that gay days at disney is much more of a circuit party than a family friendly place to go. it is also not endorsed by disney, so you will have many other people there that are not part of your group.
We are working on coming up with an r family idea for a theme park and will keep you posted!

We made the mistake of going one year when Zach was about 3 or 4. We lasted about an hour and quickly realized it was not for us. I would love to do a theme park but not at that time.

My husband and I went two years ago as my first Disney experience.
I've never been to a circuit part so I don't know what they are like, but I thought it was a pleasant experience. We didn't go to Pleasure Island in the evenings...(I'm thinking that is where the drugs were being used.) I don't think it is a great "family" day as it appears to be more focused on adults, but we've since taken our neice and nephew (non-gay day) and enjoyed it tremendously (Vacation Club Members).
Does anyone know if a land excursion has been planned? I think I read something about Philadelphia.

Kelli,
I love the idea of doing something at an amusement park. You plan it and we'll be there.:)

Maybe an amusement park that is central, rather than east or west coast? airfare can get expensive...

We just got back from Gay Days at Disneyland- we signed up for it before this thread started so I was a little nervous from what I read. But I just have to say- we had a GREAT time! I don't know how it used to be- but it wasn't as planned as rfamily cruise- there were events for families and single people, they did have parties in the evening that were more adult entertainment- but the fact that it was Disneyland made plenty of events for children. Just walking around Disneyland and seeing all the people in red- (that was the gay color of choice) Made it an amazing experience. The venders and people that work at Disneyland would come up to you and tell you they were family as well. I had a great time- and didn't see any of what people kept calling the drug fest! Maybe because I am not into that scene and of course didn't go to the after hours party- but I had an amazing experience and met some great people.
It wasn't rfamily by any means- the fact that you are on a ship with ALL gay friendly or gay people makes it a MUCH different experience- however- this was more of a integrated gay straight community- and yes some of the "straight" people looked at us like we had 4 heads or pulled there children close to them, but they were the minority not the majority. I would go back at that time and would recommend it to other gay families.
I just thought I would throw in my 2 cents. :)
