We're considering going the au pair route for child care. So far, I've looked most closely at two agencies: AuPairCare and Au Pair in America. Does anyone have experience with either of these agencies. Or, have you used a particular au pair agency that you can highly recommend?

My family used Cultural Care Aupair, and our experience was okay. It was not a problem with the agency, it just seems that a positive or a negative experience comes from the individual aupair and how they do being away from home, adjusting to their new culture, etc. Our aupair, left us early with very little notice (that was a bummer), and in that end the agency was not that supportive because we were 3/4 of the way through our year. My neighbor has had three years of great aupairs, followed then a young woman that did not work out that well through AuPair of America.
Hope this helps.

I suggest you consider Cultural Care Au Pair. Their VP of Marketing is a gay dad and they did a corporate sponsorship of Family Pride. I think it is always terrific when we can support those who support our causes. My partner and I had three au pairs from cultural care and each experience was different but wonderful. The best way to ensure working with an au pair is successful is to understand the program you are a part of and work to help them integrate into your family and the American experience. If you contact them tell them that you are an LGBT family and that Family Pride referred you. For a while they were waiving the $250 fee to apply. If you have any other questions - don't hesitate to call our offices at 202-331-5015.
Good luck
