We have loved both cruises, and can't wait for the next one. The power of even just standing in line with everyone waiting to board just stood my hair on end! One of the biggest fans is my 13 year old boy, who is otherwise not always the happiest kid at the moment! My son, whether spoken or not, did really feel at home with all those families who were like us. He is planning his summer around the week on the boat. See you next summer!

I have not been on either of the previous cruises but am so psyched to be going on this one with my partner of 5 years and our 13 year old son! I had to do some fast talking to get my 13 year old to go with us. He does not have many friends and I think it would be great for him to get to know some other kids his age that have gay parents. He is a very quiet kid and doesn't mix well. I am wondering, did your son have much trouble getting to know others? How long did it take your son to "loosen up" and start enjoying himself?

Our 11 year old daughter was weary too about the cruise. When we got into the pier where everyone was waiting to get on the boat she looked around and then said, "Oh my god...look at all these kids with gay parents! I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE!" It made me cry. I think she had two friends before she even checked in!

We also met a boy from Chicago on the first cruise and introduced her to him once we met up on the boat. They were in the Kids Crew together and had a blast. She keeps in contact with him and we meet up at our local COLAGE meetings when we can.

this is great to hear from you all with teens...we have a 12 year old son and this will be our first experience as a family doing something so in tune with our lives...we can't wait, although i think our 12 yr old is a little unsure....hopefully we will be able to meet some of you during the cruise...looking forward to seeing you all

Hi Cornfed;

I'm from Colorado, but a transplant from Indiana - so I know where you're coming from. Our son is 11 and this will be our third trip. He loves it - encourage your 12 year old not to be worried. Our son had so much fun that sometimes the Alaska all he can think about. We'll have to get those boys together on the ship.

hi mama thanks for the reply...he is just a little unsure is all..not a big deal...he loves new experiences, however a boat full of gay families is not something he has ever experienced...we run into other couples occasionally, but they are few and far between..here in illinois where we are from it is predominantly conservative republicans(we r south of chicago by a few hours) ..so consequently a lot of our friends are straight couples...i think this will be a great experience for our whole family...write me a note..send an email...we'll have to meet...thanx again

Hello WadyPhoto,

My partner and I (along with our 9 year old son) live in Michigan City. I'm so glad that your daughter had a positive experience.

I see that you mention your local COLAGE meetings. Could you please let me know what these are? I'm guessing that maybe it's local families like ours?? If you don't mind, you could email me at missy46360@yahoo.com with more information.

Thanks, in advance,

Missy :)
